On Friday 19 November the Association of Directors of Education for Wales and the Association of Directors of Social Services for Wales released a joint statement calling on the Welsh Government to fully adopt the CCfW’s proposals.
Families First in Education Wales find this statement very troubling and we are going to take time to consider it fully before making a formal response.
There is no evidence in the statement that either organisation has sought to engage with home educating families before making this comment, and therefore initially this appears at best to be yet a further example of institutional “othering” of law-abiding citizens who are exercising their freedom to make choices which are different to those of the majority.
The statement was announced on the ADSS Cymru website. The full statement can be downloaded from their page or directly from this one.
For now we encourage all home educating families in Wales (and elsewhere) to help us resist the Children’s Commissioner for Wales’ attempts to impose registration and monitoring of home educated children, including mandatory interviews by LA staff, by signing our open letter to Education Minister, Jeremy Miles.
We also encourage you to subscribe to our email updates which will inform you when we have published new updates on this site.
